For the indefinite future, I will be conducting regular polls on this site. Past webmastering experiences have taught me that polls can be effective tools in getting more interaction with site visitors.
Ideally, most site visitors would be posting comments on my blog posts and my webcomics and putting money in my PayPal tip jar. I’d like to do everything possible to encourage visitors to do this, but past experience has taught me that a majority of site visitors don’t do this. There could be a variety of reasons for this. Perhaps they don’t have time. Perhaps they’re not completely comfortable with the idea of having an online discussion with me.
This site currently gets traffic from a variety of sources. Whenever possible, I want to find out what people like about this site and find ways to “draw out” visitors so that I have a better understanding of why they may be here.
On older versions of my site, I’ve discovered that many of those people who won’t comment on anything will answer a poll question.
Perhaps a certain percentage of poll respondents will subscribe to my RSS feed. Perhaps my subscribers will eventually feel comfortable enough here to post comments. For the time being, I feel hopeful.
Personally, I think polls are fun. I enjoy answering and watching polls on other sites. I hope it goes without saying that these polls aren’t supposed to be as scientific as, say, the Zogby Poll. They’re here to encourage site visitors to interact with me.
The polls will all relate in some way to MISFIT’S JOURNEY and my comics work. Each poll will have a corresponding blog entry where I’ll post my thoughts on the poll topic and allow others to comment.
All poll-related blog entries and comments can be found here.
